I’d say Giverny’s pendulous wisteria clusters and tranquil Japanese footbridge combine to make for a proper muse, wouldn’t you? For those who didn’t catch a glimpse yesterday, our homage to this garden landmark is coming along nicely.

An international team of scientists has uncovered the first evidence of a non-human species cultivating plants for use other than as food. Instead, bowerbirds propagate fruits used as decorations in their sexual displays. The researchers discovered male bowerbirds had unusually high numbers of fruit-bearing plants growing around their bowers, and used these fruits in order to attract females.
Wisteria (Wisteria floribunda ‘Longissima’) in full bloom collapsed during a storm at the home of Carol Tessier in Asnieres, France just outside of Paris. Although dramatic in a jumbled heap, the photo after it was pruned and re-attached to it’s arbor shows how elegantly beautiful this vine is when handled appropriately.
