Brooklyn-based website, The Scout, just released the newest addition to their video series highlighting craftsmanship. Launched back in 2009, the series has portrayed a variety of craftsman ranging from apparel designers to architects. Revered wood sculptor JB Blunk’s self-built Californian home was created by the artist himself from salvaged materials in the 1950s. The hilltop house still stands almost exactly as he built it and each year, three artists are selected to live and work at the house for three months. Free to use his workshop (still with Blunk’s original tools) as well as his vast library as a resource, they are expected to donate one or two pieces of work at the end of their stay. They are sold at an annual exhibition, the proceeds from which are used to fund the next year’s art residencies.
